Moulin Riche
Bordeaux, France
Château Moulin Riche can pride itself on a prestigious past as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur of Saint-Julien de Rignac. The property was created in the 19th century, when the back areas of the Saint-Julien appellation were cleared, and was acquired by the Cuvelier family at the same time as Léoville Poyferré in 1920. The property's rigorous management and care of the vineyard were rewarded in 1932 in the classification of the Crus Bourgeois. Château Moulin Riche was one of six properties (and the only one in Saint-Julien) to obtain the highest ranking of Cru Bourgeois Supérieur Exceptionnel. Moulin Riche's 20 hectares of vines are planted on hilltops of deep gravel and aeolian sand; in the 1970s, the grapes were incorporated into the blend for the grand vin at Léoville Poyferré, adding the characteristics of this magnificent terroir. Château Moulin Riche was Château Léoville Poyferré's second wine. With the 2009 vintage, Château Moulin Riche started to be made separately again, and Pavillon de Poyferré became Château Léoville Poyferré and Moulin Riche's second wine.
Mouline Riche is a superb, elegant, delicate and ripe Saint-Julien. It is a structured wine that ages to perfection in 5 to 15 years.
